I have started to digitize all our old family movies. while this might seem a simple task, as i thought it would be at first, i have come to discover that when you have 20+ tapes with 5+ hours of footage on each, it is a lot to wade through.(pss: don’t ever use EP mode when recording.) I would say that i am close to half way done and have digitized 250 gigs of home movies. (that is a lot for those of you who don’t know.) these all come from VHS tapes so they all have to be done manually, which means i have to watch all the segment and then capture it in real time to the computer. Unlike the digital tapes and recording devices we have now where you can tell the computer to capture every thing from this point to that point and it will do it automatically.

For the rest of Nov. some times i would get a Sunday or Saturday that i thought i would have off only to get a call at some point in the day that would land in in the office fixing something or making sure things got done.

...So far Christmas day was the only day since i started the show that i did not received a phone call or email about work.

...I don’t steer the ship or decide where it goes or how it gets there, my job is to keep it running and afloat so that the powers at be can run it aground time and time again.

Don’t give out other peoples full name. if you have a link section just list there first or pen name but never give out their full name. they are probably trying had to keep personal info from getting out so try not to thwart their efforts by divulging their name.

...Don’t tell people where you work. large or small company there are ways to find out where a company is located. you can tell people you work in the plumbing industry or broadcast / movie industry or what type of job you do but telling people who you work for is not the best idea.

...I am not trying to scare any one i just want to let people know that as fun as the internet is it can also be a dangerous place. keep the internet in the internet and out of your real life. you don’t want to have the internet show up on you door step one day. so stay aware just like in real life and be vigilant about how much specific info you give out. if some one wants more info on something you have blogged about they can email you.

When you blog you are forced in to describe your experience or feelings into terms other people can understand. some one who has never been to Jamaica can read your blog and see how you experienced it. i have found that things you think you will remember and don’t write down in detail don’t make a lot of sense to you, or any one else, latter, case in point my younger journals. so you have to write in a way that will show others what you are talking about or feeling.

...Look at reality TV, if that is not blogging at it’s hight i don’t know what is. and with as popular as it is i am surprised more people don’t blog about what happened on reality tv. or better yet a Reality tv show about blogging.

...as you can see i got over that. i am careful not to put to much info out in to the great wide open, and if you think that you know me well just by reading my blog you will probably be suprised once you really get to know me.

...I get emails from people asking me for more details about my posts. to be honest i have probably had more interaction with people since i started my blog, then when i just called people. besides i can reach more people with blogging, i.e. if i had to call every one who was going to read this blog and tell them everything that i am saying here i would probably have little time for any thing else.

I have been Pro pc for a very long time, but now the the new tech of being able to have windows on your mac i hope to have the best of both worlds. there are some programs that i have to use on pc so i cant abandon pc totally but it will be nice to have a computer that i don't have to fix or repair before i can email or make a video.

Playhouse build

On Saturday, for Mothers day we gave mom a playhouse for the back yard. ... I have no dought that i will probably have other problems in the future but for now this will do. its funny that i had just switched to mac and now there are all kinds of problems. whoa, i am getting ahead of my self. i should say that i still love my computer and i will not be willing to give that up any time soon, but i am very frustrated with the way apple handled, or didn’t handle the massive switch over this last week.

...well it started out for a few days that i would get a publish error message after trying to publish. then it move up to not being able to publish at all because it would tell me that i had to sign in to .mac while i was signed into .mac. it has been very frustrating and i am very upset as a new mac user to have this happen to me after having all of my friends tell me how great mac/apple have been. ... I think we would all be a little less upset if apple would let us know that they even acknowledge there is a problem and that they were doing something about it. so far we have heard nothing. I have been researching other hosting options and will probably not renew my .mac/mobilme account. my wife has a trial .mac account and when hers expires we will find her an alternative as well. if this problem is resolved we may stay but at this point i feel as though i have wasted my money and time on your services.

Frustration continues.

<dc:subject>Blog</dc:subject>

well it has been 4 days that apple has let me down on this site. i am considering a move. if that does happen the link www.branitt.com will still be the same, it will just be some one else hosting. with the colossal screw up apple had with the release of the 3g iphone, 2.0 update for the original iphone and the mobile me switch over all on the same day i guess they have not had time to fix the problems of the current paying customers. as i have just recently switch to mac this does not bode well of winning my confidence as a company and platform i can stand behind and count on. It also has 500 gigs of hard drive space, and just to make sure she did not run out of room he also bought her a 500 gig external storage drive. oh, and by the way that new 22” lcd monitor is total sweet. Ryan and i spent a good couple of hours setting up and trying to transfer files from moms old computer to her new one. after being told (by the old computer) that it would take 237 mins. (which is roughly 4 hours) to transfer a 3.5 gig file we decided to let it go and call it a night. the next day i came back and picked up both boxes and took them home where i could work on them while doing other things. once i started to investigate why the old computer was running so slow i discovered that it had about 35 (and this is not an exaggeration) background programs running. after closing all of them but the ones need to run the computer things picked up speed. i spent several more hours sifting though moms computer to find things i thought she might need and downloaded drivers for the stuff she would be hooking up to the computer. on sunday morning, hopping that she had not come home yet i took the boxes back to their house and spent 2 more hours hooking up all the cords fighting stuff on moms desk and making sure it had an internet connection and was working ok. Later that day dad called me and kept me on the phone while he brought mom in to show her the new present. she was happy, i think. any way, we still have a lot to do. we still have to reload all the programs that she used on a regular basis and make sure we got all the things she want to have on her new computer. I hope to show her how to close down her background programs so that this Really fast computer does not start running slow too. but that having been said Happy birthday mom.

...Knocking over a C Stand at any time, or any pice of equipment, but particularly in the middle of a shot while the camera is rolling. this will immediately focus everyones attention on you. the camera will stop and everyone will wait for you to pick it up and set it right. then afterward make fun of you as if you have never been on a movie set before and have no idea what you are doing.

...Farting in the middle of a quiet scene in front of the entire crew, cast and any one else who might just happen to be there, resulting in the cast busting out laughing and unable to regain composure for 15 min. during which time the whole crew waits and stares at you for adding an extra 30 mins. to their day.

...If you have to deal with that person again and there’s no getting out of it , go up to them and say” hey do you remember that time i was talking shit about you and you heard me over the comtex?

...If you are an FX guy and you have to do a fire/explosion effect and you blow up a building or lift the roof off a house, all you have to do is say” oops, i might have given that a little to much.” and just go back to cleaning up your gear.

Deal two, I can not go in to details at this time, but i can say this: It is going to take 10 times longer to complete this task than initially thought. in my mind a simple thing, once started, a completely different story emerged. ... I am working on a show that has had very good hours and not very hard work, you would think that i might make a little time to blog, but alas i have not. I have been very busy though. last week i was sick, which by the way takes up a lot of time in which you get nothing done. this week i have been working and building things for work at my office.

For those who care i hope to have an ice blocking video done by this weekend. i can not believe how long something so simple has taken me. I am partly going to blame having to learn completely new soft ware and editing program, and partly blaming not being able to decide on the music.

...Imagine if you will some one came in one night while you were sleeping and took all the keys off you key board and remapped them. so if you hit the G key the number 9 popped up on the screen and so on and so on.

The keyboard itself is different that should not take long to get use to as i have several other computers that i use that all have different keyboard. the one big difference that this keyboard has that is total cool is backlit keys.

...I push the on button and in 30 sec i am using the computer. that is going to take no time getting use to. i am however going to have a hard time starting my pc from now on.

It was explained to me the way you use a mac is to think of the easiest way to do something and that is probably how it is done.
